Our History

Joseph Messner Jr, JGM’s founder and CEO is the 5th generation Messner to build a business and career in steel fabrication and industrial construction.

jgm history

The entrepreneurial spirit runs deep in the Messner’s blood for over 120 years!

At the age of 16, Joseph Anthony Messner—Joe’s great, great grandfather—started his career at Thompson Ironworks as a boilermaker in 1898 (pictured on right).

Following in his father’s footsteps, Joe’s great grandfather Joseph George Messner, worked as a boilermaker for Sun Ship until he stumbled across his first opportunity to start his own business. In 1946, he founded a boilermaker business called Triangle Engineering in Chester, Pa. This business was then purchased in 1970 by his grandfather who operated the company until it closed in 1979.  That same year, Joe’s father (referred to as “Sr” by the JGM Team) and “Uncle Chris” opened a pressure vessel fabrication and mechanical contracting company called Five Star Industrial Services.

So it should come as no surprise that at age 16, Joe Jr began his fabrication career, working after school on nights & weekends at a local steel fabrication shop, gaining invaluable experience and skills sets.  By 19, he was trusted with his first project: detailing, fabricating and erecting a 7,000 square foot retail space. With a small garage and a pickup truck, Joe incorporated JGM in 2001. By 2008, his company was AISC-certified and completing a 250,000 square foot fast track project for Amazon. This project was the birth of the JGM rebranding and our tagline “When you need it yesterday”.

In 2010, a turning point for JGM, we branched off into the heavy industrial construction business to build frac sand plants across the country, supporting the US oil & gas boom.

Today, Joe Jr leads a team of high-energy, experienced professionals that have earned a reputation for solving heavy industrial construction & fabrication challenges for our industrial clients nationwide, meeting nearly impossible construction schedules.  From our roots in boiler repairs & steel fabrication, all the way up to full design-build, turnkey construction projects, JGM is ready to serve our customers safely and quickly. Together with our customers and partners, we plan, we adapt, WE SUCCEED.
