JGM Serves the Nation’s Largest Energy-from-Waste Company

At JGM, we are committed to helping energy-from-waste (EfW) companies provide a more sustainable future by stepping in and solving their most challenging steel fabrication needs. When Covanta Energy, North American’s largest EfW company, contacted JGM for a boiler feed water pump project, our team was all in.

Challenges

After partnering with Covanta Energy, JGM determined three boiler feed water pumps needed replaced and new associated piping for their water tube wall boilers needed installed. Although the JGM team has completed similar projects in the past, this situation presented unique challenges because some work had to be performed in a confined area within the basement of the boiler house and all three pumps had to be rigged through a single floor hatch.

Solutions

JGM’s team was up for the challenge and quickly got to work performing all the rigging, equipment alignment, structural steel, power piping and insulation needs including:

  • To minimize on site work and with over 500 LF of piping ranging from NPS ¾” up to NPS 12” required, 60 percent of the piping was fabricated in our ASME certified pipe shop, improving quality and efficiency.
  • All piping was performed under the ASME B31.3 process, with the guidelines of ASME section one new construction.
  • Welding was performed by our talented team who adhere to the GTAW welding process under ASME section nine qualification.
  • To complete the final tie ins, JGM and Covanta coordinated a three to four-day plant outage.

Results

Driven to be the safest, fastest, most effective fabricator and constructor in the world, the JGM team completed this project in just 60 days and with zero safety incidents.
