This project was unique for JGM to say the least! Barr Engineering, an engineering partner of JGM’s, reached out on behalf of Silver Dollar City to gauge our level of interest in supporting the fast-track fabrication of their new waterslide project. Silver Dollar City’s parent company, Herschend Entertainment, is the largest family-owned amusement park operator in the United States. The Mystic River Falls waterslide features the “tallest raft ride drop in the Western Hemisphere” at 4.5 stories. Their current fabricator was falling behind and the project needed extra support.
JGM is always up for a new and exciting challenge, so our team rallied to put together a comprehensive plan to fast track the fabrication of the rotating raft elevator tower. This tower was 10’ x 10’ standing over 90’ tall and had to be shipped in two sections. JGM preassembled the fabricated and machined components prior to blast and paint to guarantee an exact fit at the project site. Upon completion of the sophisticated coating system, JGM installed all the mechanical equipment prior to final shipping to eliminate as much field work as possible.
This project required over 5,000 manhours to complete. The tower shipped on time and the new waterpark opened on schedule. We are told there is another one in the works! Stay tuned.
