At JGM, we are proud of the team we have built. The drive our team members have to be the safest, fastest, and most effective industrial construction and steel fabrication partner in North America sets us apart. From steel erection and process piping to complex fabrication and any need in between, our team has the talent and grit to execute the toughest projects.
We are proud to recognize team members who excel at their craft and provide opportunities for internal growth. Today, we are introducing Steven Hicks, who started at JGM as an apprentice and was promoted to welder 2 at our Coatesville, PA facility. We sat down with Steven to learn about his role at JGM, what inspired him to become a welder, and some of his most memorable projects. See what he shared!
How long have you been with JGM?
Steven: I have been with JGM for just over two years.
What inspired you to become a welder?
Steven: I started out as an apprentice. I would watch the skilled veterans weld and I was inspired to learn how to be as good as them at the craft.
Can you share a memorable project you have worked on that showcases your welding skills?
Steven: Two of my favorite projects that I have been honored to work on include the Boston skyscraper and the new Terminal One at JFK airport.
How do you ensure safety while welding?
Steven: Before starting any job, I make sure I have on all the proper PPE to keep myself safe.
What advice would you give to someone aspiring to become a welder?
Steven: My advice for someone pursuing a career in welding would be to practice, take advice from those who have been welding for years, and always take your time. Rushing is not the solution!
