Crystal Steel awarded JGM the fabrication, painting and delivery of (2) 200’ long pedestrian bridges for the new Potomac Yard Metrorail Station. The Potomac Yard Metrorail Station site is located approximately midway between the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Braddock Road Stations along Metrorail’s existing Blue and Yellow lines & Active CSX lines.

These pedestrian bridges are critical to say the least! Therefore, critical bridge structure fabrication falls under AISC Fracture Critical criteria. This specification required JGM’s quality control team to develop a step-by-step fabrication and QC plan to ensure the fit up and welding processes met and exceeded the engineer’s requirements. Each 200’ long truss was fabricated, welded and test fit to ensure 100% accuracy. Additionally, each section received a SP-6 surface preparation, primer coat, and topcoat before making their final trip to Alexandria, VA.

The site logistics were challenging at best and required carefully timed deliveries to feed the crane. JGM’s transportation group secured all necessary route surveys and permits to guarantee the safe and just-in-time delivery of 12 oversized loads. These bridges were erected over a 3-day shutdown on president’s day weekend of 2021. When you need a guaranteed quality for your critical infrastructure projects, contact JGM today!
