Exelon Power selected JGM for this project due to its unique approach to achieving the project goal. Exelon was performing maintenance on the crest gates for the Conowingo Dam. The maintenance performed on the actual dam caused major logistical and operational issues to control the water flow during storms.

JGM designed and engineered a rigging and transport plan, along with a temporary maintenance structure, that enabled Exelon to relocate the maintenance operations away from the dam to a maintenance parking lot located 1,000 yards away. The temporary maintenance structure was a key element to the project viability and to the schedule. JGM designed the temporary structures to eliminate the need for large excavations and foundations.

Exelon and the county building department approved the concept and JGM was able to cut the project schedule down to just eight weeks. We worked with Exelon Maintenance, Conowingo Dam Operations, county officials, and the Maryland DOT to develop and implement a plan that had minimum impact on the community.

These gates weigh in excess of 45 tons. They are also 40 feet long, 28 feet tall and 4 feet wide. JGM transports these gates six times each year.
