JGM was hired by SSOE Group, a global project delivery firm for architecture, engineering, and construction management that specializes in the Food & Beverage industry, to support this food client with their new Spiral Flash freezer project. This project was going to enable the client to freeze their finished goods much faster with far less energy consumption. The challenge was all this work had to be executed within an operating facility under a compressed schedule that required six days per week with two shifts. Everything had to be coordinated perfectly!
JGM’s scope included all structural steel demolition and install, underground plumbing, concrete demo, new freezer slabs, 1200 LF of ammonia piping, heat tracing, piping insulation, roof top dunnage, new HVAC equipment and associated duct work, epoxy floors, drop ceilings and wall finishes.
With over 1200 LF of piping, the ammonia system required extensive coordination with little room for error. The piping system was fabricated under b31.5 Refrigeration Piping and Heat Transfer Components Code. All piping was welded 100% via GTAW welding process with 100% argon purge to guarantee the best weld quality. The pipe size ranged from small bore up to 12” schedule 80. JGM installed and tested everything we could up until the final tie ins.
From the onset of the project, the team had developed a detailed schedule and logistics plan that outlined every task, including the critical outage work. It’s imperative to know exactly where you are at any given point when building critical plant infrastructure. We had several shutdowns to allow us to connect our new mechanical system to the existing facility. We even worked Father’s Day weekend and the 4th of July to guarantee we would hit the end date! This project was completed on time and under budget with zero lost time incidents! When you can’t afford to miss deadline, contact JGM!
